| CUPS OF THE HEART - Emerald Joy and Paul Tye
An original and unique musical and poetic journey into the tarot by Emerald Joy and Paul Tye.
Each song and poem is based on the cups cards of the minor arcana and uniquely depicts the symbols and meanings of each card. By using a landscape of sounds, vocals, and instruments (which include guitars, mandolin, synthesizers, percussion, Tibetan bowls, tuning forks, and recorders) the CD helps you to experience and learn the suit of the cups in an artistic and meditative way.
Whether you want to indulge in a greater understanding of the tarot deck or let your spirit soar to the music, words, and sounds this CD paints luminous pictures reminiscent of the Waite tarot deck. Certainly a great listening tool for either purpose.
With fourteen original poems written by Emerald Joy each card tells it's own story and creates an inner sanctuary of hidden expression. Meanwhile the versatile music written by both Paul Tye and Emerald Joy set the intuitive scene by which one can imagine and sense the unspoken mysteries of each card.
This CD leaps into a different type of New Age listening experience that combines all the elements of healing music with the rich compositional variations of many genres of music including blues, renaissance, baroque, jazz, and popular idioms. Yet, all seem to blend together to complete the quest of the cups cards journey that expresses the element of water the very essence of feelings and senses.
The cups cards are the heart of the minor arcana (pips) and bring the understanding of love and higher spiritual compassion. As the Ace of Cups says, "the vessel is full, dive in". Dive into this one of a kind CD that will take you on an adventure to your heart.
Emerald Joy is a singer, songwriter, poet, actress, and healing spirit that has combined her love of the arts with her desire to uplift the spirit. She has been involved in the intuitive and musical arts for over twenty years sharing her talents as a professional musician and teacher. This is the third CD she has produced and hopes to complete the entire minor arcana tarot in the future. She resides in the Los Angeles area where she produces other projects, does vocals for film scores, performs different generes of music and teaches others to sing. Paul Tye is an accomplished musician, composer, and recording engineer with many credits to his substantial music career. Born in NY, Paul studied guitar and composition receiving a Master's in Music degree. He now resides in San Diego where he produces new artists, composes for film, and continues song writing. Inspired by the tarot CD, Paul is currently working on a solo guitar recording of healing music.

Review of “Sound Garden ~ Celestial Voices” CHRONOGRAM, February 2006 By Sharon Nichols
Einstein said that the most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It’s unfortunate, then, that he wasn’t afforded the opportunity to hear Celestial Voices. This 14-track disc is no plinky-plunky new age barf, unlike many of the “spiritual” discs New Leaf Distribution cranks out these days (though they occasionally pick up a truly glorious disc like this one-- congratulations ladies). This a-capella female chorale-- Kyoko Kitamura, Marlene Primavera, and JSL composer/director/producer Judi Silvano-- intertwine crystalline vocals ranging from soaring soprano to deep, earthy tones in a seamless soundscape that transcends the conventional relaxation recording. The most blindingly beautiful ray of light is the one piercing through the heaviest thunder cloud. And here comes the sun. For local listeners, this disc will inevitably draw comparisons to Prana or any number of groups of chanting yogis, monks, nuns and the like. But this disc moves beyond the ecclesiastical, as its peaceful, placid sea of song has an underlying tone that echoes and haunts, summoning the listener beyond the watchtowers to who knows where. Einstein might have loved it. Celestial Voices is the second in JSL’s meditation series; look for the piano, flute and harp of Vibration Songs in the Spring.
Reviews from Listeners:
"This is a lovely offering by a great musical couple, from their hearts. The music is enchanting and haunting as the candle flickers: mysterious gongs shimmer and help us float away." - Bruce Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery News
"Sound Garden - Spirit Music (JSL Records) is a peaceful musical journey of East-Indian and jazz-influenced music. The improvisations featuring flutes, recorders, gongs and percussion, voice, and reed instruments (such as alto and bass clarinets) are played by two veteran musicians showcasing their empathy and partnership in music and in life. The music transcended mere tunes and what otherwise might be expected from music, touching upon something actually quite spiritual." - Laurence Donohue-Greene, Editor, All About JazzJazz

SOUND GARDEN ~ CELESTIAL VOICES - Judi Silvano
Sound Garden ~ Spirit Music is a series of collaborations between composer Judi Silvano and master musician Joe Lovano. They both play woodwind instruments and a beautiful array of gongs and percussion instruments. Judi plays flute, alto flute and alto recorder while Joe plays wood shakuhachi flute, bass clarinet and bass recorder. These tracks are musical improvisations which evolved from their interwoven personal and long musical relationship. Judi sings only sporadically on this disc and uses her voice often as an evocative ccompaniment for Joe's melodic excursions. There is a spatial quality to this set of music, which leaves room for quiet reflection, peaceful breathing and a calm appreciation of the world around us.
